Chuck Cheesman: Music
Campfire
(words and music by Chuck Cheesman)
I wrote this love song in a beach house on the Oregon Coast last August. For many months I had been trying and failing to write a political song called "Campfire". Funny how that works. It is a very personal song and it's probably my favorite thing I've written.
Brian DeMarco came by the house and played the harmonica and wouldn't let me pay him anything more than beer and pizza. He is that kind of guy. Please give his music a listen at www.demarcomusic.com. His new CD "Bend Don't Break" is an eclectic mix of gritty songwriting and excellent musicianship. Brian plays from the heart and has a lot of fun making music. I admire that and try to do the same.
I’ve got muddy boots and when I’m lost that’s when I’m feeling found.
In the shadows by this campfire’s dancing light I’ll lay my body down.
Some folks would call this nowhere, but to me this is a dream...
To sit and watch this campfire slowly die with you here beside me.
You say, “Hey look, it’s a satellite.” I say, “Listen to the moon.”
Then your laughter spills into the night. You tell me, “There ain’t no such tune.”
Even if the moon won’t sing there is not a thing on Earth I’d rather do
than sit and watch this campfire slowly die listening with you.
Even if the moon won’t sing there is not a thing on Earth I’d rather do
than sit and watch this campfire slowly die listening with you.
So I say, “Peace, Love, and Wilderness.” and “What does this life mean?”
You gently kiss me on the cheek but you don’t say a thing.
Let it all remain a mystery. There is still one thing I surely know is true.
It’s how I love to watch this campfire slowly die wondering with you.
I’ve got muddy boots and when I’m lost in you that’s when I’m feeling found.
In the shadows by this campfire’s dancing light we’ll make our bed upon the ground.
Folks can call this nowhere, but to me this is a dream...
To sit and watch this campfire slowly die with you here beside me.
