Chuck Cheesman: Music
Big Blue Dog (Live at Uncommon Ground Coffeehouse)
(words and music by Chuck Cheesman)
While recording "Coming Home" we decided to arrange a live recording session at Uncommon Ground Coffeehouse. I think it was a Tuesday night. Victor Sanders brought his mobile recording gear out. Dale Petersohn is on the second guitar, Brian Gingrich is on bass, and (lucky for me) a room full of enthusiastic twenty-somethings who I'd never seen before or since added the howling.
As a songwriter I have to admit that every line in this one is a cheap one - and totally fun to sing! A studio version of this appears on my kids' CD "A Family Songbook".
I'm a big blue dog and I'm howling at the moon! (repeat)
I'm a big blue dog and that's right I've got the blues!
I'm having a very bad day, so stop hounding me. You go fetch your own stick. You're barking up the wrong tree.
I'm a big blue dog...
I dug up the whole backyard and could not find my bone. Just pour me my Kibbles & Bits then leave me alone.
I'm a big blue dog...
So up and down my street I chase the kittens around, but they won't let me catch them because I'm just an old worn-out hound. And that old alley cat? She sure loves to fight. That's just because she knows me. I'm all bark and no bite.
I'm a big blue dog...
